When you're wrong, then why not be wrong in the details too? The AIDS virus is not "HLTV-3". It's not even HTLV-3: that's what Robert Gallo thought... but he was wrong. But of course, it would have been unpatriotic to refer to HIV, as it was discovered by a (now Nobelized) Frenchman!

I once did a report about a disease and in the book I was using as a source had a chapter on AIDS.  
 
I'm not sure if the story in it was true or not, but it explained how AIDS found its way from monkeys to people was because there was this disease running rampent among the African people. Medical doctors, for some reason that escapes me, found a way to cure the disease by taking a monkey's liver or kidney, sticking a needle into it to get some sort of fluid and then injecting it into the diseased people.  
 
As the chapter said, that disease was cured but as a result people got the AIDS the monkeys had carried, which the monkeys themselves had an immunity. 
 
Mind you, this book was fairly old looking, and it's been a long while since I last read it so I might accidentally be forgetting important details. Still, an interesting look at it.

- You've already seen that from the earliest days of life on the "inside", the baby is very human. -  
 
The "inside"? It sounds like he's talking about a gritty prison. 
 
Is he trying not to say "womb"? After reading the Homosexuality cartoon, I would think this guy would be able to handle writing any word he'd consider nasty or sickening. And he'd be able to write it while drawing a picture depicting the whole acts or hand gestures (in the case with 'fisting'). Though, "womb" isn't really what one would consider a word that's nasty or sickening. Actually, maybe he was trying to avoid drawing a womb? It's hard to tell since there's only a few pages for the abortion section.

Man, this guy is off the rails.  At times he makes valid points, such as prejudice against AIDS victims, and at times...apparently gay people are more likely to shoplift? The weird part is that OMG gays moral panic guy is the sort of overreacting loudmouth who'd be a strawman for the other side in any other propaganda comic who would be converted by the calm and rational main character. It's hard to tell what's supposed to be funny or parody and what's supposed to be serious.

This almost looks like a parody sometimes.  
 
I mean, seriously "But that's not right!  No one should discriminate against moral people who just happen to be different!" followed immediately by yelling at the smiling, friendly gay man for helping him.  
 
And seriously--smiling, friendly gay man.  And the guy rambling on about how evil homsexuals are is perfectly friendly right back to him.  
 
And I can't help but notice the part about preventing discrimination against gays, where he accuses them of not presenting any evidence that such discrimination was actually happening--so what?  Laws forbidding it don't even matter in that case!  But then he goes on to complain about how it stops people from discriminating against gays, which raises the question of why he would question its existence...  
 
It's just odd, all 'round.

The 73 year old man got AIDS from kissing his wife, who he hadn't had sex with for 30 years.....meaning he stopped having sex with her at the age of 43.  That's just depressing.

As sad as I think Dick's views on gays are, I am loath to admit that he doesn't seem too far off about abortion.  Don't misread me, overall I'm pro-choice because I don't believe that one belief should have more rights than others who believe differently, but that doesn't change the fact that abortion is murder and is in most cases the most selfish act a woman could ever do.  What blows my mind is that even in basic middle school science class we are all taught that an amoeba, a one-celled organism, is a living thing.  It has no heart, no central nervous system, but a scientist would not hesitate to say it's alive.  Yet, when a human female's egg has been fertilized, and begins to split not into one cell but into many cells, it's not thought to be alive.  Even once it attaches to the uterine wall via its placenta, it's still not thought to be alive.  If at that point it's not alive, why does it need nutrients?  When was the last time you saw a rock needing nutrients?  They don't, because they're not alive.  Only living organisms require nutrients to survive.  Life begins when sperm meets egg and cell division begins.  What makes abortion even more selfish is the fact that (at least here in the States) there is ample access to the "morning after" pill which, when taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex, stops the egg and sperm from meeting up.  For a woman to not take advantage of this medicine, to carry the child and decide to murder it is selfish.  Even in the case of rape, if the victim is within the 72 hour time frame, the morning after pill is a viable option, and most hospitals offer it routinely to rape victims.  For the victim to go on and abort the child (again, unless she was not able to get the morning after pill due to being abducted, or some other situation that was out of her control) is like giving the child the death penalty for the rapist's crime.  What angers me the most are women who use abortion as birth control (and I have personally known women who have done this).  All those little lives, snuffed out because mommy is too lazy, skanky, or stupid to have her partner use a condom, or at the very least to get herself on birth control.  I try not to judge women for having had abortions.  My mom, God rest her soul, had an abortion due to a child conceived from incest, but at that time there was no morning after pill, and the child was developing abnormally due to being fathered by the close relative who raped my mom, and in that case abortion was the merciful thing to do for the child.  I know there are exceptions, like that I just mentioned,  but if a woman is having an abortion for her own selfish reasons or due to her sheer laziness to get herself to a pharmacy and get a morning after pill, then it is out and out murder, no matter how you slice it.  Ok, I'm through now, I just had to get that out there.
