Note: This article was originally assigned to three writers: Stew Albert, George Kimball, and Hunter S. Thompson, all of which were running their own local campaigns for sheriff, each on the Freak Power, or Yippie ticket. Thompson dropped out of contact with The Realist, later opting to write his account for Rolling Stone (see RS #67, "The Battle of Aspen", Oct 1970) - other interesting 'freak' candidates for public office included Oscar Acosta for Los Angeles County sheriff and Billy Noonan for Pitkin County coroner.
