February 19, 2007 UPDATE

Pretty big update this month. We'll lead off with a few sex jokes:

ITEM NUMBER ONE

STRETCH YOUR MEAT with CREAM OF WHEAT
1940s Wartime Food Rationing Booklet

QUOTE:
TODAY stretching meat is necessary ... and patriotic. Our boys in the fighting forces consume vast quantities of meat, and therefore the supply for civilian use is reduced [...] The suggestions and recipes in this folder will help solve the problem of meat-stretching.

Not posting the entire booklet as it's just text-only recipes for mixing Cream of Wheat with meat, and your imagination will do better than they did, believe me - and I mean that in both a culinary and euphemistic way. Certainly all you need for your own home-based meat stretching is the cover and introduction to get things started. Click here for large scans.

yes no

Jokes out of the way, on with the update:

ITEM NUMBER TWO

First installment of
POODLE FRAMES and LOOPS

We've decided to post, as an ongoing archive project, all 1800+ images used in the Poodle Film. These are intended for your own use while playing Poodle, and also as a reference for the film itself. Many people don't realize the cartoon segments in Poodle were made by frame-by-frame unfiltered Poodle images, with no additional animation software (meaning no Flash or AfterEffects was used, etc.) The entire animation is constructed, as a conversation, by sending an image back and forth.

for example, here's the first few exchanges
002,003,004,005 ...

The first 75 images have been posted, with about 25-100 new images posted every month. Make your own Poodle. CLICK TO VIEW.

(a whole lot of it)

Incidentally, here are two different games of Poodle that have been posted by others

FIRST ONE - from the
Recombinant Human Dragon
Bearded Miracles
blog:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9

The sudden shift of perspective between this image and this image is really nice, and something that never occurred in the first 1800 images played between me and Scott. And I love the final image here.

from sito.org

and SECOND, this sprawling series of images from sito.org is really, and I do mean really, something to chew on. I especially appreciate the incarnation of Lenny Bruce into the mix. All of it is pretty damn stunning though, through and through. Extremely impressive!

ITEM NUMBER THREE

COMICS WITH PROBLEMS #14
Household DANGERS: Guns and Computers

From "Learn Gun Safety"
with the NRA's Eddie Eagle

Also "Be Safe on the Internet"
with the Boy Scout's Power Pack Pals

Leave it to the NRA (above) and the BOY SCOUTS (below) to make comics about gun safety and child stalking. Thanks guys. No flags of irony need to be raised here, certainly - but an important question does immediately arise:

What is shooting out of this kids butt? and WHY IS HE SO JOYOUS?

Eddie Eagle and the Power Pack Pals star in this month's DOUBLE-FEATURE ISSUE of Problems. The first part, "Guns", from the NRA, is especially confusing - sort of a kids comic book mixed with distracting MENSA Quiz questions and connect-the-dot activities. Think learning to avoid killing your family through Sudoku.

Then, there is the Boy Scout contribution:

The Boy Scouts Power Pack Pals win the 2007 EP.TC award for most bitching ass logo. Congratulations! That logo could electrocute an elephant. This is a "Computers" comic about being safe on the Internet. But it is also about visiting the zoo. And about trusting strangers as long as they are in your bedroom dressed up in large Chuck E Cheese animal costumes - but not when they are calling themselves "Jungle Boy" on IRC. These are important rules, and I hope we are all taking notes. You'll love the pages on handling the Chat Room, as well as the back cover.

ITEM NUMBER FOUR: POSTSCRIPTS

some postscripts:

from Wilma

Responding to our Johnny Surge post, a Wilma DeLuth sends these lovely images (above) of her own "Surge Teats Don't Pinch" Teat Clips! Apparently a family heirloom. Thanks Wilma!

And we've been meaning to post these very funny and clever parodies of HOW TO SPOT A JAP and the AA COMIC STRIPS from the always invigorating and talented SomethingAwful forums:

First, Reggie White, FOOTBALL GREAT tells us:

And this one cracks me up every single time I look at it:

and then we have this great AA-based one entitled "The Dangers of World of Warcraft"

and of course:

Unfortunately I don't have the names of who did these, but they originally came from SA. Apologies, I'm not a paying member and can't search the archives to give proper credit.

And just recently here's one from username Want Bartender, of the b3ta.com message board, updating things for Iraqi times with "HOW TO SPOT A BRIT"

Lastly, we were emailed this image (shown above, click for closeup) We are told it is not a bomb, but are waiting on a confirmation. Frankly, it's got some strange markings on the back and we can't trust it.

Thanks - More in late March or early April - Best, Ethan
