January 4, 2010:

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE

Lead item for the new year - A new issue of Evergreen Review, issue 121.
Related good news: Evergreen was featured on the front page of Print Magazine's website today, with design icon Steven Heller generously commenting:
"In the mid-'60s, the magazine I read most was Evergreen Review. For the past decade it's been revived online. Now is the time to appreciate it." (link)
It remains a good privilege to design for the magazine, and I'm also very thankful to contribute the occasional piece of writing. Click to read "A DAY SPENT IN HELL" - a personal account of witnessing Bush's first appearance since leaving office. This occured at the quasi-neurotic Get Motivated finance conference in Fort Worth, and required driving through the worst weather imaginable to attend.
I'll be adding photos and a postscript here in a few days. Stick around for jokes on Terry Bradshaw, Zig Zigler and other oddities not mentioned in the main piece. The actual item stars Colin Powell, Tamara Lowe, Jesus-rocker Leon Patello, and others, and is immediately available for viewing, grease and all.
Regarding the full issue of Evergreen, many good items. Includes a poem by CANDY co-writer Mason Hoffenberg (wow on that one, provided to Evergreen via his estate) a good piece of satire from David Comfort, and some excellent book reviews on Burroughs and Naropa.

Note: We take January off from the Realist archive. A new update in February - and at that point we begin the good countdown: Only nine updates remaining until the entire 146 issue run is digitally preserved.
More soon, Thanks. See you, Ethan

Postscript Item: DUBLAB in Japan, Dinger on your phone.
Whoops, almost forgot this cool news.
A few years ago, an 8-second loop of ours, "Dinger" was included in Dublab and Creative Common's launch of "Into Infinity". Since then, the project has grown substantially, and there's now a pretty stunning iphone application that allows you to play with the sound loops. Here's news on that (the application is free to download and full of free music)

In addition to this, Dublab recently toured Japan on an "Into Infinity" tour. Here's news on that, with photos of the exhibition. Best to them.
Okay, now I mean it...
More soon, Thanks. See you, Ethan
