February 2013 News:

Hello! Some good items on the site since we last updated this front page last December.

As always, if you're new to the site, there's a list of drop-down menus on the bottom of this page for hundreds of entertaining documents.

New Items for 2013:

Item 1) JOHN WILCOCK COMIC now on BOING BOING

Very happy to announce that, beginning now with Chapter Four, the John Wilcock comic is being serialized on Boing Boing, with new material roughly every two weeks. Here are the three installments currently available:

Thelonious Monk's Heroin Arrest

The Story behind Larry Adler, Flexidiscs, and
ECHO, "The Magazine You Play on Your Phonograph"

Mexico Break-up, Leroi Jones, and Gypsy Rose Lee

We can't be happier to have the comic running on that site. Here's an index of all available pages. And read Chapters 1-3 here if you haven't already done so, why don't ya.)

Item 2) Two new issues of COMICS WITH PROBLEMS:

Issue #54: The Return of GOOD WILLY
in "From Goodwill Industries, A Good Life"

Depictions of disability have never been easy-going material, especially in public service literature. Among the weirdest of these is the mascot for Goodwill Industries, Good Willy, who (among other advertising duties) starred in two comics for Goodwill in the 1950s.

To collectors of this sort of thing, the two Good Willy comic books are really coveted and tough to find. We were happy to post the first one, entitled "A Will to Win" back in 2011. And now, we're extremely happy to post the second one, completing the set. Click to read the somewhat grim and yet somewhat dignifying, "From Goodwill Industries, A Good Life"

Issue #55: THREAT TO FREEDOM!
a Picture Story Exposing Communism

Speaking of rare comics, how about a completely unlisted one! And in the super Anti-Communism category at that. Add to it a pro-Jesus sermon and some TERRIFIC TYPOGRAPHY, and you have a delightfully weird gem called Threat to Freedom, A Picture Story Exposing Communism.

This type design really says THREAT and FREEDOM!

More soon. As always, the best way to keep up with what gets posted on this site is not through this front page but through our RSS, Twitter or Facebook pages. Best, Ethan
