COMICS WITH PROBLEMS (Issue #66 late December 2014)

Howdy - Every year Comics with Problems likes to hold off until the holidays to share something really special. (Previous gifts have been an entire set of Alcoholics Anonymous Comic Strips or a gallery of Paper-based Condoms or a handbook on the scourge of abusive PHONE LINE behavior)

This year, whoo boy, here is a complete set of what is EASILY one of the rarest set of comics from the 1970s. If you're a collector of Fantasy Comics (the Heavy Metal and Frank Frazetta sort) DID YOU KNOW: That from the from 1971 through 1974, Frank Thorne produced a social welfare comic with a superhero named FAR OUT GREEN? Read on..

Ho Ho Ho! Welcome to
FOUR DAYS OF FAR OUT GREEN!

Read: Day One | Day Two | Day Three | Day Four

Ludicrously rare comic set of Frank Thorne's social welfare comics for the Social Welfare Research Foundation, Trenton NJ - To be fun, we'll be posting one of these at a time, a new comic posted every day (from Dec 21-24)

Read Issue One Now | Read Issue Two Now, as well | Read Issue Three Is Now Up | And we now conclude with Issue Four

These are incredibly weird comics - with so little documented about them that the full number of issues (FOUR OF THEM) hasn't ever been cited. Produced for a SINGLE CITY, Trenton New Jersey, and likely a VERY LOW PRINT RUN, it's a guess that only a handful of these comics still exist. Tracking down each copy was a fun task - and every day, around noon CST or so, from December 21 through December 24, there will be a new issue posted.

Odd dialogue and phrasing is only one
of the charms of this odd odd set of books

Thorne can draw like a motherf*cker, and is best known for his work on Marvel's Red Sonja, which is a bunch of eye candy that likely wouldn't pass the Bechdel Test. Here he is (ahem) reviewing his work with his model:

And, famously, here he is dressed as a wizard, with a gaggle of Red Sonja girls - Including Wendy Pini (of Elfquest)

Frank, you old dirty dog, you!

Enjoy the whole thing below:

Issue Number one, 1971: DELINQUENCY!

Each issue has a blank back cover. This one's green, FAR OUT!

Click for Issue Two, SUPER COOL!
