HISTORY PROJECT: JOHN WILCOCK: NEW YORK YEARS | MUSIC: LIVE AT HARRY'S LOFT | ISSUES: COMICS WITH PROBLEMS | ITEMS: REALIST ARCHIVE

New on this site: RADIO HOUR

A WEEKLY BLENDING of extremely rare and often unheard music from government offices…self-help gurus…awkward 1970s cult sermons…educational albums, other miscellany — PAIRED WITH, EDITED, AND PROCESSED THROUGH: vintage and modern electronics, samplers, manual tape-cut edits, turntable mishandling, pitch loops, field recorders, analog delay boxes, control voltage noises, other instruments. (See box at right for current playlist, subscribe here.)

Have a minute for a Radio Hour? A new episode every Monday.

February 14 2014: Happy Valentines Day! With (very literally) a message from the crazy woman screaming outside my front window:

January/February 2014:

News — Two interviews this month:

1) Two hour interview with JM Bell for THE LEFT SHOW.
Definitely the funniest and most spirited interview I've ever had recorded. One part of Jeff's show is TELL ME A STORY, where he invites people to set a theme, and that frames the interview. Very happy to have done this. Here's the complete audio:

Click the link for the acid story, stay for the burritos.

View all episodes of Jeff's terrific weekly program here.

2) This month's issue of PRINT Magazine has a great article on AN UNCENSORED LOOK AT BANNED COMICS, including tons of great high resolution indecent images. Check it out. I'm included as an interview subject in a few paragraphs, including a fun lede joke (that I'm delighted got printed) about censorship on the Apple Store.

Other items:

A new issue of COMICS WITH PROBLEMS - Kid Justice vs AIDS!

And a new weekly audio show, (shown above, top of page)

Thank you for visiting.

November/December 2013:

John Wilcock, New York Years

one puff and you're insane

[Note: A project of this website has been a biography of underground publisher John Wilcock. More information here.]

Hello! - CHAPTER FIVE of "JOHN WILCOCK, NEW YORK YEARS" concludes on Boing Boing, with a three part story of John's experience with Tim Leary and Mexico.

Here's each individual installment:

Reefer Madness, part one

Part One: REEFER MADNESS and MEXICO MUSHROOMS
A visit to Cuernavaca for a NYT travel article inadvertently introduces John to Tim Leary - on a vacation of his own.

Timothy Leary and Avocados

Part Two: TIM LEARY'S FIRST WEEK ON HALLUCINOGENS
The completely true (yet unreal!) moment in counterculture history. Never before reported! Do you like avocados?

Harvard Psilocybin Project

Part Three: PARTICIPATING IN
THE HARVARD PSILOCYBIN PROJECT

A few pills arrive from Harvard. What could happen?

- Chapter Six will post in a few months -
Thank you for reading

New issues of COMICS WITH PROBLEMS
Continuing our effort to provide some of the rarest and weirdest public service message ephemera on the web:

Issue #61 (December 2013)
Ouch! — Complete set of Superman Bosnian-War Landmine Awareness comics, "Deadly Legacy" (Why do these damned things always have to include hurting a dog, btw.)

Issue #60 (November 2013)
Truly strange one. One should always be cautious around flying beef-saucers:
Ronald McDonald in "Adventures in Scouting"

- NEW - SINGLE PAGE Side-Problems:
"Her Robe Caught Fire!" (1981)
"She Wandered in a Daze!" (1984)
"Flaming Gas Enveloped Their Father!" (1980)
Slashed by a Glass Door!" (1980)
"Fireworks Blew Off His Fingers!" (1984)
Scam: "The Mailman" (1958)

Issue #59 (October 2013)

Oh, what a creepy Gish!
1974 Anti-EVOLUTION Comic asks "Have You Been...BRAINWASHED?"

CLASSIC religious oddity from 1974 is this 30 page comic book tract on Creationism. From the edu-sermons of creepy-looking Dr Duane T Gish. (wikipedia)

As always, the best way to keep up with what gets posted on this site is not through this front page but through our RSS, Twitter or Facebook pages.
